Why are My Teeth Yellow?

There are many different things that can cause your teeth to become dull and discolored. Some of the most common culprits include:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Soft drinks (Coke, Pepsi, etc.)
  • Smoking
  • Chewing tobacco
  • Red wine
  • Certain medications
  • Aging

For the best results following your whitening treatment(s), consider amending any habits that might be contributing to your tooth discoloration. It isn’t always possible to prevent discoloration depending on your personal experience, but a few lifestyle changes can certainly help!

Types of Teeth Whitening Treatments We Offer

At Lincolnway Dental Associates, we offer the following teeth whitening options to lighten stains and brighten up your smile.

Whitening Trays

We can have take-home whitening trays custom made just for you. All you need to do is add the whitening gel/solution we provide to the trays and put them on, then wear them overnight or for an extended amount of time (depending on the type of solution you have for your trays).

Whitening trays might be a good option if you have sensitive teeth and need a gentler, more gradual whitening experience.

Zoom Whitening

We also have Zoom whitening, which is a quicker process than the whitening trays. Just come into our office for a whitening appointment and we can do all the whitening at once, or we can break it up into multiple sessions--whatever works best for you. With Zoom, we place a solution on your teeth and have you sit under a blue light for about an hour (or four 15-minute sessions depending on what you choose). To reduce tooth sensitivity, we apply a fluoride gel to your teeth right after the whitening session.

Zoom is a popular bleaching process that helps to lighten discoloration of the dentin and tooth enamel. The light used to bleach the teeth breaks down the hydrogen peroxide solution on your teeth, sending oxygen into the enamel and dentin to help bleach any stains without harming the structure or integrity of the tooth itself.
